In 2016, SJCh initiated a long-term series of interventions through collaboration with regional galleries and museums, and, more recently, some institutions that are not focused on the presentation of visual arts. The purpose of these interventions is to present contemporary Czech art in new and unique contexts, to familiarize audiences outside the main centers and beyond those that normally visit art institutions, and to create opportunities for dialogue between contemporary art and historical art collections, museum exhibitions, and specific localities.
These are presentations utilizing a more intimate format, as well as larger-scale projects, permanent exhibitions, exteriors and even the non-exhibition spaces of cultural institutions or monuments. They may be site-specific installations by one or more artists, live events and performances, or specifically curated projects involving existing works which will resonate freshly in the given context. The interventions are conceived primarily in collaboration with artists who have participated in the Jindřich Chalupecký Award from the 1990s to the present, or with other important personalities active in the Czech art scene.
As part of this program series, we have already cooperated with the Gallery of Fine Arts in Cheb, the Gallery of Modern Art in Roudnice nad Labem, the Regional Gallery of the Highlands in Jihlava, the Moravian Slovak Museum in Uherské Hradiště, the Center of Glass Art, Huť František in Sázava, the Kolín Waterworks and the Czech Pharmaceutical Museum in Kuks. The Liberec Regional Gallery, which, since 2017, has been regularly hosting the Jindřich Chalupecký Award finalists' solo exhibitions for each previous year, has reserved a special space for the Intervention.
